The innkeepers, Dr. Charlotte
Stinson and Darlene Fuehring have been friends for many years and this Bed
and Breakfast is a dream that started in 1987, the same year this home was
built. That was the year that Charlotte accompanied Darlene on a visit to Madison, Wisconsin, so Darlene could check out the area where her second son was
in graduate school for his PhD. |
| The first experience
with a Bed & Breakfast was such a positive one that the thought of owning
and running a Bed and Breakfast became a seed planted on fertile ground.
Darlene and Charlotte purchased the property in June of 1993 and opened
in November '93 as a B&B. They will soon be celebrating their 14th anniversary
as a Bed and Breakfast. |
| Doc, as many of Charlotte's friends call her, was born in Jonesboro, LA and is a former teacher of chemistry and physics. Besides being
mother of two and a grandmother of three boys, her main occupation is Optometry,
having received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston. |

The things that interest her besides work are very obvious to anyone
who wanders around the property. She has planted nearly everything that
flowers in the yard and has reintroduced many "old" flowers
to the area. She is what professionals call a rose rustler and can get
almost any antique rose to grow from a cutting. She never leaves home
without her clippers and shovel.
Charlotte was born in Jonesboro and lived in the country with her grandparents until she was a
teen, when she moved to Baton Rouge. Following her "Papaw" around on the farm taught her
much of what she values today, love of the land, the animals, growing
things and figuring out how things work.

Darlene, who grew up in Glidden, Iowa, where her parents were small business owners. She has been a
Louisianan since 1957. All four of her children were born and raised in
Baton Rouge and graduated from Louisiana colleges. Growing up in a very small town has prepared her well
for enjoying all aspects of the small city of New Roads.
Even though she received a Batchelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Home Economics, it is the

German and Danish heritage of her grandparents that gave her the
interest in baking the special breakfast breads and pastries that have
become the main stay of the continental breakfasts served at Sunrise on the River. Darlene's family of four children and their families
are scattered through out the country. Ten grand children are welcomed,
but rarely get to visit at the same time.
Responsibilities and duties have evolved so that each has chosen
different duties. Darlene's flexible schedule has allowed her to manage
the business, take care of the inside and make and plan breakfasts. She's
the one prospective guests usually talk to on the phone or get a response
from on the internet, and Charlotte has chosen the outside and the gardens. Darlene's outside responsibility
is appreciation and she does it very well.
Darlene has been active in Residential Real Estate Sales and Marketing
and Relocation for 30 years and recently left the largest company in the
Gulf South to start her own company (Darlene Fuehring, Realtors). Many
people who come to False River fall in love with the area and are interested in the possibility
of retiring here. She can assist you if your interest in property becomes
important. Helping you rent or lease long or short term, either as an
owner or a prospective tenant could be possibilities.

Besides having a passionate interest in their family and all the
grandchildren, these two women are both very interested in reading good
books, listening to great music, getting to know interesting people, traveling,
observing animals and birds, appreciating nature, photography, computer
knowledge, art, and creating . Real Estate investing and trading stocks
are areas of financial interest that has taken them down different paths,
but ended up in a similar place. The images on this web site were photographed
by Darlene over the past few years.
The adopted home of New Roads and Sunrise on the River Bed and Breakfast has become their answer to the
question "Where can you go to find peace and fulfillment for your
life?" The sensual pleasures of nature, the birds, the sunrises,
the aroma of each season's fragrances, watching the daily sky shows and
the reflections of every mood in Beautiful False River, and sharing with
friends, family and guests, the satisfaction of visually appealing surroundings
and fantastic taste bud treats creates a joy for the all that are fortunate
enough to travel this way.
