Sunrise on the River
Bed and Breakfast

There are certain places that are pleasing to the senses, places that are simple and kind in their expression; Sunrise on the River is such a place. It provides an elegant and quiet retreat setting on the banks of beautiful False River in New Roads, Louisiana.

Located just down the street from the historic old New Roads, Sunrise on the River offers three guests rooms, each with a private bath. The honeymoon suite with a Jacuzzi bath and a private door to the veranda which overlooks the butterfly and hummingbird gardens and the River. If you enjoy bird-watching, you may want to bring your binoculars and enjoy the bird sanctuary.

At the Inn, a continental breakfast is served from 8:00 to 9:30 .  But the morning really starts with a full pot of coffee at 6:15 for those early risers who want to take their first cup of coffee out to the pier to watch the fish and the birds awaken before Sunrise.   While dining, guests enjoy panoramic river views, and on warm days, breakfast on the veranda is especially delightful. Guests can also listen to the sounds of the innkeeper's 19th-century music box that plays specially crafted tin disks which bring a Victorian charm to thoroughly modern and elegant accommodations.

Three activities which many people look forward to on this famous oxbow lake, once part of the Mississippi River, are boating, fishing and water skiing. The private gazebo pier offers swings and a hammock for visiting or napping as well as fishing and boat docking. Boat launching is only minutes away. At Sunrise on the River, visitors are just a stroll away from the specialty and antique shops of New Roads. You can easily travel to old plantation homes and churches, drive by fields of sugar cane and cotton, or take the ferry to St. Francisville, a town rich in the history and architecture of the antebellum South.

South Louisiana is famous for its piquant cuisine and varied seafood regalement. Guests can dine at any number of excellent restaurants here in New Roads, close by in Pointe Coupee Parish, or in Baton Rouge, which is only 35 minutes away. Your innkeepers will assist you in making reservations.

Come and enjoy a warm and elegant home, shady porches, the lap of water, and the flicker of birds' wings. Come and enjoy Sunrise on the River.
